Together Treasure Valley, a collaboration of approx. 20 area businesses, continues to invest in our communities with a donation of $20,000 to The Salvation Army for a new community playground. This brightly colored playground will be installed on the grounds of the new Salvation Army campus, planned for West Boise. There are approximately 1,200 little ones, ages 2 1/2 – 5 years old, living in the neighborhoods surrounding the campus plus other young visitors who will enjoy this new playground. “We are very proud to add this new community playground to the list of projects that Together Treasure Valley has supported in our efforts to make the Treasure Valley an even better place to live, work and play” said Binna Jensen, Together Treasure Valley Project Director. Together Treasure Valley selects and funds a variety of projects that will leave a lasting, meaningful impression in the Treasure Valley.
The Salvation Army (TSA) has been serving our community since 1887 — and for the last 96 years has been helping very young mothers in Boise with their unique school program. The Booth Campus in the North End initially began operating as a maternity hospital for unwed girls, today TSA operates the Booth Marian Pritchett School Program for Pregnant and Parenting Teens to help teen parents stay in school and graduate. Thanks to the communities support for this program they’ve been able to help nearly 10,000 girls and their children. However, the building has long outlived its useful life and the neighborhood has changed significantly since the school was first built.
The new campus will more than double the capacity of the School Program for Pregnant and Parenting Teens, and expand the types of support the Army provides to enrolled students and their young children, including two new early learning and preschool education classrooms.
One key element of the new facility will be to provide athletic fields, a gathering space and a playground to serve the neighborhood and provide a much needed recreational space in an area of town identified as lacking in these amenities which increase the quality of life for nearby residents.
Together Treasure Valley is a Treasure Valley-wide concept, launched in April 2106, to do good in our community and celebrate what a great place the Valley is to live and work. Area businesses have joined together and are making a significant investment in funding this and other initiatives. The goal is to work together to identify and fund projects that will make the Treasure Valley an even better place.
